Zero Waste Recipe: Lemony Fresh Pits Deodorant


Coconut oil (6 teaspoons melted)

Baking soda (1/4 cup) *aluminum free*

Cornstarch (1/8 cup)

Lemon essential oil (15-20 drops)


  1. Combine cornstarch and baking soda in a bowl. Mix with a fork.
  2. Mash melted coconut oil with cornstarch and baking soda mixture until it becomes a paste.
  3. Add lemon essential oil and mix as well as possible.
  4. Store in a sealed jar at room temperature, (mason jars are lovely!).


To Use: Place product between fingers and apply under the arms for all day pits that smell like lemon meringue pie!

    do you think this could work with another essential oil? Such as Thieves or Peppermint?

      I’ve also done this with lavender and peppermint. I haven’t tried thieves, but would think it would work. 😊 If you try it with a different oil, let me know how it goes! Orange would probably be good too!

        On a regular basis, I use clary sage, lavender, lemon, lemongrass, orange, and peppermint. I’m in the process of stocking up on more, such as frankincense, bergamot, jasmine, etc. I have used lemongrass for butt butter for my son, (cloth diaper friendly!), which I’ll be sharing the recipe for soon!

  2. Lemon sounds lovely – never thought of that! I add vanilla to my coconut oil/bicarb mix.
